How it works
The skin converts vitamin A in steps: retinol becomes retinaldehyde, which becomes retinoic acid (the active form). Because retinal is only one step away, it is widely documented to act faster than retinol while remaining a cosmetic ingredient. Like other retinoids it is sensitive to air and light and can cause initial dryness.
